Germany is one of Europe’s largest and most technically demanding rail markets – and also one of the more heavily regulated. Before a rail vehicle can operate here, it must undergo an authorisation procedure with the German Federal Railway Authority (EBA) that takes account of national regulations and European law (including Directive (EU) 2016/797 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/545).
